Mumbai, India Terrorists High Tech Assault: Gunmen Use Blackberrys

As the Mumbai massacre finally came to an end this week, a surprising detail has come to light - among the possessions of one of the terrorists, which included: a Mauritian national's identity card, Chinese-made grenades, seven ammunition magazines, 400 spare rounds of ammunition, seven credit cards from different banks, dry rations and thousands of dollars in cash, was a Blackberry phone.

The Blackberrys were apparently used to monitor police responses, troop movements and international reaction, mostly on British sites, after the cable tv feed to the hotels were cut off.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Available in the U.S. by Black Friday for $799.99 Unlocked

The Xperia X1 will be available unlocked through Sony Electronics and its authorized retailers beginning on “Black Friday,” November 28. Pre-orders of the Xperia X1 have been available through the Sony Style Web site at www.sonystyle.com beginning last November 13. This premium device will be sold unlocked for the MSRP of $799.99, giving consumers the freedom to choose their own mobile operator and data plan.

“The Xperia X1 continues the Sony Ericsson tradition of delivering the highest quality experiences and the most advanced technology available today,” said Karen Morris, vice president of marketing, Sony Ericsson North America. “The most exciting scenarios enabled by the Xperia X1 will be created by consumers – enabling them to customize and personalize their device and content to fit their lifestyle and personality.”

The Xperia X1’s unique panel user interface is at the heart of the device’s ability to create and adapt consumers’ personal choices. With up to 9 panels, it’s easy to find and enjoy the information and entertainment content they want. Sony Ericsson is busy working with third-party developers to create a wealth of new applications and new panels that will soon be available for download.

By incorporating the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, the Xperia X1 frees consumers from their home and office, allowing them connectivity to their content wherever they are.

“Windows Mobile gives people the ability to easily navigate between their business and personal lives,” said Todd Peters, vice president of marketing, Mobile Communications Business, Microsoft. “The panel user interface found only in the Xperia X1 is bringing unique experiences to consumers who want more from their converged devices.”

As Sony Ericsson’s most advanced phone to date, the Xperia X1 brings together a large, 3-inch wide VGA display touchscreen and a full QWERTY keyboard all wrapped into a sleek silver metal- finished arc slider handset. The Xperia X1 supports fast 3G networks, enabling audio and video streaming, high-speed internet surfing, multimedia messaging and email on the go. In addition to delivering 3G mobile broadband speeds, the Xperia X1 supports WiFi to meet the needs of consumers’ always connected lifestyles.

In the tradition of Sony Ericsson, the Xperia X1 offers consumers the ultimate multimedia experience with a 3.2 megapixel camera, video streaming, video playback and video recording, and the ability to enjoy all their digital music.

Sony Ericsson Launches Facebook, Microsoft Windows Live Panels for Xperia X1

Sony Ericsson has just launched the latest panels for its multimedia convergence phone, the Xperia X1, teaming up with the popular social networking site Facebook and Microsoft Windows Live. These web-centric panels come in addition to the existing connectivity panel from Dashwire, a site which allows you to sync your phone content to the web and share it to a range of popular social networking sites.

The new Facebook application built for Sony Ericsson uses the unique interface of the Xperia X1 to deliver an intuitive version of the site, putting images of your friends onto your phone’s desktop (standby screen) and showing their latest status updates as you touch their images. Touch through to access more Facebook features.

New functions available through the Xperia X1 Facebook panel include:

* An entirely new visual representation of friends’ statuses
* Simple and fast upload of photos to Facebook
* Easy access to Facebook friends list and phone numbers, with click to call capabilities.

As you touch to view different information, icons and links change to give you one touch access to the information you are likely to use - for example, touch the photo icon from your profile page to see your photos, from a friend’s profile page touch the photo icon to see their photos.

The Xperia X1 marks the beginning of a partnership between Sony Ericsson and Microsoft. In addition to building the X1 on the flexible, powerful Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, which helps extend the phone's connection to Microsoft Web and PC experiences, a new Windows Live panel will help Xperia X1 users instantly bring their existing Windows Live contacts and features to their phone.

The Windows Live panel uses existing Windows Live ID to sync contacts held in the X1’s phonebook, and the panel will provide easy access to an intuitive Microsoft messenger interface, including Hotmail and Live Messenger, the world’s most widely used free instant messaging service. The panel will also give users access to the Windows Live Search function, which is tailored to mobile phones and can be voice activated and controlled. Other Windows Live services will be incorporated into the panel throughout the year.

The Dashwire panel seamlessly synchronises the X1 and the content it captures with a user's computer and the web. Dashwire's free service helps users automatically sync the contacts, text messages, photos, videos, calls, and settings from their phones to a private cloud-based account, providing them with access to their information when in front of a computer or on-the-go using their Xperia X1, and making it easy for users to do things like backup their contacts, send text messages from the web, and share their photos and videos with friends and social sites like Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, FriendFeed, and Bebo.

“Panels open up an exciting set of opportunities for users to interact with their personalized experiences, and for developers to help bring them to life,” said Ford Davidson, founder and CEO of Dashwire. “By building out a custom panel, we’ve enabled our users to instantly access all of their photos stored in the cloud with just a flick of their finger.”

The Facebook, Windows Live and Dashwire panels are available for free download via the device’s on-board downloader and from the Sony Ericsson website, where they join the initial panels from Sony Ericsson and Spb software. Panels can also be downloaded from the Sony Ericsson Fun & Downloads web site. Browse to www.sonyericsson.com/fun and select 'panels'.

Mcdonald's Sued for $3 Million for Pictures in a Mobile Phone Left at Their Restaurant

Never ever take compromising photos or videos on your phone, or this might happen...

Tina Sherman, of Bella Vista, Fayetteville, Arkansas, sent undressed photos of herself to her husband’s cell phone.

One day, her husband, Phillip Sherman, forgot his phone in McDonald’s on Sixth Street in Fayetteville, on July 5, 2008.
Tina Sherman was shocked to receive lewd text messages and phone calls about her pictures.

Tina Sherman then found out that her photos were uploaded online and her contact details were also posted. The website described how McDonald’s employees retrieved the photos from a cell phone left in their restaurant.

Phillip Sherman and Tina Sherman have named McDonald’s Corp., Matthews Management Co. and a manager, Aaron Brummley, in the lawsuit. McDonald employees had promised Phillip Sherman to secure, turn off and safeguard the cell phone until Sherman came to retrieve it. The Shermans are suing for a minimum of $3 million.

President-Elect Obama's Mobile Phone Account with Verizon Wireless Breached

Verizon Wireless said on Thursday that some employees had gained unauthorized access and viewed a personal cell phone account held by President-elect Barack Obama that is now inactive.

An Obama aide said his voice-mail messages and e-mails were not breached in the incident.

"We were notified yesterday that employees had accessed the records of an old cell phone no longer in use," the Obama aide said. "No voice or e-mails were listened to or read."

The company said the device in question was a simple voice phone, not a Blackberry or other device designed for e-mail or other data services.

In a statement, Verizon Wireless President and Chief Executive Lowell McAdam apologized to Obama and said all employees who had had access to Obama's account, whether authorized or not, were put on immediate leave with pay.

Telecom analyst Michael King of Gartner said that a telephone employee accessing billing information could likely see the numbers a customer had called, how long conversations with those people were and when he called them.

King said he could not recall a high-profile case where an employee had unauthorized access to records and that recent public cases involved company outsiders finding ways to check other people's records.

Verizon said it will soon impose disciplinary action against those who accessed Obama's account improperly.

Asked to disclose exactly what kind of information was viewed, the duration and frequency of the unauthorized access, Verizon Wireless spokesman Jeffrey Nelson declined comment beyond the company's statement.

Nokia E63 vs Nokia E71 Comparison: Features/Differences

Here are the differences between the budget E63 and the high-end E71:

* The E63 has a colored plastic shell versus the E71’s metal one. The front is a metallic-finish, whilst the back cover is a soft-touch finish - both attract far few fingerprints than the E71’s.

* The E63 is nearly identical in dimensions to the E71 except for the depth - the E63 is around 1.5 times the depth of the E71.

* The E63 has a 3.5mm jack on top versus the E71’s 2.5mm jack on the side. This appears to be the first E-series to have a standard headphone socket - something normally saved for N-series.

* The E63 has no side buttons for volume or voice recording. It’s also missing the E71’s IR window.

* The E63 has a revised keyboard layout, adding a ‘/’ button on the lower row, shortening the space bar.

* The E63 appears to have a slightly smaller dimension screen although it is the same 320 by 240 pixels as the E71.

* The E63 lacks internal GPS.

* The E63 does not support HSDPA data.

* The E63 has the same 110 meg internal memory, but is shipped without an additional memory card (although a slot to add one is present).

* The E63 has a 2MP camera versus the E71’s 3.2MP and has a fixed focus.

* The E63 adds a flashlight function that allows the camera’s LED flash to be used as a torch.

* The E63 lacks the E71’s faux-leather slip case.

And here's the key business features still present in the E63:

* WiFi
* 3G (there had been some rumours this was 2G only)
* Microsoft Exchange sync via MailForExchange
* Expandable memory
* Fast operation and stable S60 3rd Edition FP1 OS
* Pre-installed QuickOffice
* E-series security and encryption functions
* Huge 1500mAh battery

A Cheaper Version of the Nokia E71 Officially Announced- the Nokia E63

Espoo, Finland - Nokia has announced the latest addition to its Eseries range, the Nokia E63, designed for people who need to manage their business and personal lives equally well. Building on the success of the Nokia E71, the company's flagship messaging device, the Nokia E63 brings the QWERTY keyboard form factor to a broader audience at a great price. The Nokia E63 is expected to begin shipping in the coming weeks for an estimated retail price of EUR 199, before taxes and subsidies.

"Our research shows that people want a device that deals with both their personal and professional lives, but helps them to separate the two. When someone sits down at lunch, they want to update their social network or browse their personal email account and they don't want work getting in the way of that. It's another great case of technology adapting to the people that use it," says Soren Petersen, Senior Vice President, Nokia. "The Nokia E63 is a new proposition for Eseries - a messaging device where people will be just as involved in their social network as they are in their business network."

Whilst appealing to a new group of consumers with a design that feels great in the hand and has two new colors, the Nokia E63 is still very much a member of the Eseries family. Petersen continues, "People use Eseries to access their corporate mail, review their calendar and work in their business network, so the Nokia E63 still includes Wi-Fi connectivity, easy access to Mail for Exchange and dedicated key access to contacts, calendar and email."

The Nokia E63 also has the ability to switch modes with a single key press, switching from a view of corporate mail, appointments and intranet data, to a personal mode with a picture of friends, personal email and shortcuts to favorite hobby blogs or websites. Petersen adds, "The amazing response we have seen to the Nokia E71, which has very quickly become the best selling model in its category, let us know that we are heading in the right direction. People want a rich experience when using messaging, social networks and the Internet. With the Nokia E63 you can enjoy the web, update your status and work meaningfully with multiple email accounts."

The Nokia E63 also includes Files on Ovi, a service where people can get remote access to their PC files even when their computer is offline. Anyone buying the handset will have access to 1GB of online file storage for free.

The Nokia E63 will be available in ruby red or ultramarine blue with a range of multimedia features. Record and view images and videos with the digital camera and bright landscape display, listen to music downloaded from the Nokia Music Store, or a number of other sources, via the standard 3,5 mm audio jack or customize the device through the thousands of applications available for download.
